Why Boko Haram rape victims should not abort pregnancies-Catholic Bishops

There has been a lot of controversy regarding the fate of women raped and impregnated by Boko Haram members .While some groups have said they should abort the babies, others have said the women should not.

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria has out rightly condemned those suggesting abortion. Chairman of the Health Committee of CBCN and Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja (Catholic Archdiocese), Most Rev. Anselm Umoren, stated this during a press conference on Monday in Abuja.

He said  such innocent children should not be visited  “with capital punishment” in the name of abortion for an offence they did not commit.
“Specifically, it is not tenable, the suggestion that killing the babies conceived through rape by the terrorists, is the most humane action to take in this instance.
Since the babies are ignorant and innocent of the crimes – aggression, sexual assault, dehumanisation – against their mothers, it is unethical to punish them for the sins and offences of their erring fathers.”He said

  3. Abortion is a sin. It simply compounds the wickedness committed by the fathers of these unborn children. The mothers should be supported by the government creating a bureau to facilitate putting these children up for adoption in cases where the mothers are emotionally or financially not able to cope with the demands of caring for them properly.

    1. My dear, it's not an easy decision to make by the girls and their families.
But we have to remember that there's a life beyond this one. The afterlife. Decisions we make here affects us when we cross to the other side.
They can have the babies and give them out for adoption or orphanages.
The bishop is looking at the spiritual aspect of the situation.
There is this popular man of God I've forgotten his name now. He was a product of gang rape of his mum. She went ahead to have him despite the challenges and God later used him mightily.
Children are never mistakes in spite of the circumstances surrounding their conception and birth.

  10. Belinda, just because you have the liberty on social media for freedom of speech, you should insult your elders.
shut up is rude in any society in the world.
if it's so nice please allow younger ones to greet you with SHUT UP morning, afternoon and evening. Especially in public

    2. Even if it doesn't affect you it has affected others who feel that there are better ways for you to express yourself.
Your opinions would still be respected regardless.
I don't have to share your point of view but shut up was harsh girlfriend.
Others may have been saying it but don't know why we noticed yours. Probably it's a message from God.

  11. This is a very delicate issue! It should be handled with care! If the victims were not much, I would av suggested they leave the babies. But in this case, one has to do the needful!

  13. I have not been in that situation and I don't even wish my enemy to experience such. But, biblically, abortion is not good. I would prefer the babies are born and given up for adoption.
