The fight against Ebola has just experienced a major setback as Sierra Leone's top doctor fighting the outbreak has died from the virus. The death of Sheik Umar Khan ,39 was confirmed by the country's chief medical officer, Brima Kargbo.

Sheik who was credited with treating more than 100 patients, was infected with Ebola this month and had been moved to a treatment ward run by medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres in the far north of the country.Before his diagnosis, he told reporters:

"I am afraid for my life, I must say, because I cherish my life.Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by disease. Even with the full protective clothing you put on, you are at risk,"

Since the death of Mr Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who died in Lagos from the Ebola Virus,the Lagos State Government said it had identified no fewer than 59 people who had contacts with him.
Dr Jide Idris, the Commissioner for Health said 20 of the contacts had been screened and that none of them had so far been found to be infected with the virus.

According to Vanguard,he said the contacts did not include those he might have been with on his flight to Nigeria on July 20, as the airline had yet to release the passenger manifest for investigation.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wholeheartedly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Kano and Adamawa States as well as the kidnap of the Lamido of Kolofata in Northern Cameroon, Lamido Seini Lamine and the wife of the Vice Prime Minister of Cameroon.

The President describes as shocking, callous and reprehensible the multiple bomb blasts that occurred in Kano within 24 hours, and the unrelenting attacks by the Boko Haram at a time the Muslim faithful are observing the holy festival of Eid el Fitri.
