Ebola & Salt water...Much Ado about nothing?

The internet has been abuzz with this salt water story. I received several broadcast messages asking that I take a shower before 5:30 am with salt water.
The part of me which panics wanted to jump out of bed then the rational part of me said "It's not possible ". Is salt now a vaccine? If yes why are scientists spending billions to discover a vaccine.... Also who is responsible for the report. Is this a business strategy by a group of people to capitalise on the Ebola epidemic?
True salt has antiseptic properties, it heals sores, wounds and irritations but I don't believe it will prevent Ebola because Ebola is a Virus..Till proven otherwise,Ebola isn't airborne just yet. As long as you don't touch a gravely ill Ebola patient, you are fine..

I know most of you have had your salt water bath this morning..don't lie .....
Meanwhile..some people are already making jokes with it..below

  13. Ignorance is worst dan Ebola its self. Emeh or wat ever ur name is, I expected u as a learned person to do a little research to know why something is being said b4 u come out here and spit rubbish to confuse others who do not have their own choices but to follow ur lead. For ur information, salt in water can kill the virus wen maybe your skin comes in contact with it. Likewise soaps. Y didn't you ask the same question why Medical personnel advice that one should wash hands regularly.

    2. Anon 09:03 her name is Emeh so you got it right. .She has made her point which is, the salt water is wrong. They rumour is not that it can cure, they say it prevents it which is a lie. So stop being a hater. They say wash hands regularly after contact with people not bath in salt water at 4 am before stepping out. Get the difference

Well..i am pushed to reply u! As a microbiologist..i was also shocked to receive hundreds of bc's telling me about salt and water! Well, just like emeh said, its true salt has antiseptic qualities, but though it has not been clinically proven, I can bet u that salt has nothing to do with ebola! how does the person who started the bc know! Has he been an ebola patient before or has he cured one? Besides ebola is a virus which CAN NEVER be killed... Viruses can only be managed but cannot be killed for now! That is why HIV, herpes, hepatitis are all untreatable, though they can be brought under control! if salt had such an effect on ebola, there would never have been an outbreak in the first place and am sure scientists would have long discovered it! A salt merchant obviously started this rumour! Even this so-called washing off hands and blah blah blah! Why is it that most of ur soaps, detergents are anti-bacterial??why not anti-viral??? Washing hands or not washing hands, once u have come in contact with an ebola patient, u are very like to contact it because most of these antiseptics cannot kill viruses, but can kill bacteria, fungi etc....so for now best thing is to avoid bodily contact completely and as a Christian pray very well....i'm done!

  16. The rumour is salt prevents it which doesn't sound reasonable. How can I bath with salt in the morning to prevent Ebola. If they say rub salt on the hand after shaking people I may even consider.

  21. U most read this plssss---- Dear nairalanders and everyone who have heard of the ebola Prevention “News”, My name is Adesewa, I am coming out clean because what started has a joke has escalated into the unprecedented.
    How it started
Yesterday i was with friend in her hostel, we were talking about this Ebola out break, when one of my friends, Funke (she introduced me to nairaland) brought the idea of Us playing a prank on our friends. The first suggestion was to tell people that aloe very could cure Ebola, but we thought it would sound too ridiculous so we forgot about it.

Later that even an idea came to me (i now regret that i did it).
I decided to send a BBM broadcast message to my friends, telling them that the Ministry of Health has asked everyone to bathe with salt and warm water and drink some of it.
I sent the message 7:08pm yesterday

Later this midnight i started getting calls and messages that i should drink salt water and bath with it.

All efforts to tell people that i was the one who started the joke failed. Only my friends who i mentioned earlier believed me. Even my mum could me this morning, i did not know what to tell her.

I am using this medium to beg you all to warn and tell everyone, before they drink salt and damage their health.

Please dont be hash on me. I know this has gone out of hand. I never knew it will be this serious. Some have even added to the original message i sent.

    *Sigh*

  22. Gonna flee dis battle bitch called nigeria to Canada. Salt solution is an advance detoxification that contain magnesium & sulphate wish may contradict health and skin and because the solution is not saturated it may cause loss of weight, dry skin, hypertension & weakness of the joint in your body so please discard any message or call that direct you to bath or drink salt and hot water.. Minister of health prof. Onyebuchi chukwu. D previous alert said emanated frm prophet T B Joshua of synagogue Church as spiritual solution. May God deliver us frm all evil.
