How Doctor Killed My Son in Enugu-Sen.Jim Nwobodo

Former Governor of Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo yesterday narrated how his son, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo jnr died following the alleged negligence of a doctor.
According to the Nation, He said his son developed pains in the legs and he was taken to a consultant oncologist at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu.
“My son was ill for five months before I knew about it and we were planning to go to India before we took him to the U.S. He was given a visa for two years because the cancer was at stage four, but they treated him.
When he came back, his leg started to swell and he thought he should see a doctor and I advised him to see the best oncologist. It took us three weeks to see the doctor.
Ön Friday – I was speaking with him three times a day – and he was to see the doctor by 5pm and between 5:30 and 6pm, I called him and he said he was with the doctor. I requested to speak with the doctor but he said he was busy but instead of the doctor taking him to UNTH, he took him to his private clinic, where he had no equipment, no facility at all. I called him again and when I didn’t hear from him I sent him text and I asked the doctor to tell me why he gave my son injection that made him unconscious, he said he was sorry and that he was trying to resuscitate him.
I spoke with him by 6:30pm and by 7 pm he was dead. It is painful because this is something that would have been averted and I can’t understand why a dean of Department of Medicine should leave the hospital where he has all the equipment to go to his private clinic and I believe that is how some other people die.”

    1. Not to hold brief for a govt official but what he actually said is the Doctor left the well equipped UNTH (a Govt hospital) for his own private practice, a relatively less equipped hospital and if you are wondering why? It's so he can make the money rather than let it go to the hospital which he heads. If you ask, I am for Nwobodo taking him to the cleaners if only to serve as lesson to others.

Unless of course you are naive which i don't thnk you are, the most obvious corruption is always that of politicians but just a bit lower the ladder, you have a cesspit.

  11. May his soul RIP.

You can imagine what the average Nigerians who don't have the means of going to the US or India for medical treatment pass through. Countless number of people loose their lives everyday due to negligence, greed, poor facilities, lack of fund to deposit for medical treatment.
The truth is the task we failed to accomplish in any position of authority we find ourselves will hunt us...

#Lets join hands and fix Nigeria...Nigeria is ours. If we don't make it better it will never get better.

  13. I have no personal experience but I know ppl who do and some have paid most dearly. it's quiet a common practice for this Drs to leave the teaching hospitals and take patients to their private practice.

I hope Jim takes this to the highest level. Atleast to attract Govt attention to the practice. Sad that we have to wait until they are personally affected to see some action.

  14. So sorry for his loss. Let's not be so quick to jugde the doctor. Stage 4 cancers r usu. advanced cancers n can be terminal. Frm what he wrote, the son went to see the doctor by 5pm, so it was most likely a private visit n that's probably y he treated him in his private hospital. If he had gone to see him at UNTH, the doctor would have have attended to him there, there is no way he would have kidnapped him to his private hospital.

  15. Many of you guys are just ignorant of the whole problems...including The senator Jim and unfortunately the dead son who was also a medical doctor that is if the story as said by the senator is true. In the first place how can someone who spent 5 months in the USA for treatment wait for 2-3weeks to see a doctor in Nigeria? The severity of his medical condition was not appreciated by every one involved. There is also the mentality that you are going to see a consultant . Most consultants in Nigeria see their position as a position of rest and their knowledge don't get challenged, they are not accountable for there actions and when you ask them a question about a family members conditions they get upset because of ogah syndrome. But at the same time, you can not expect one segment of the society to be accountable when there is corruption in all fabric of the society. What happens is this......it affects the rich and the poor tough differently.

it is very sad that Wobsin is gone. This was his guys name when we were in Medical school @ UNIBEN.
