The ‪#‎TBJoshua‬ Bribe Saga:Journalist Ihechukwu Njoku replies Nicolas Ibekwe in an open letter

There have been several responses to Nicolas Ibekwe's claims that TB Joshua bribed journalists. The latest is from freelance Journalist ,Ihechukwu Njoku, who often writes for Synagogue church .Read his open letter below..

Dear Nicholas,

Firstly, thanks for standing up for your moral principles this week! I appreciate your zeal and bold resolve to let integrity lead in your journalistic pursuits.
My name is Ihechukwu Njoku, a freelancer currently in Lagos. Let me be honest - a brief online check will show that I am a fan of TBJ, evidenced in my numerous write-ups about The SCOAN.
I am not however a ‘church spokesman’ as a few people have insinuated due to the positive focus of my reports.

Before placing me in any stereotypical mould, I am not here to declare some ‘Deuteronomy-style’ curse on your head or quote the whole ‘touch not my anointed’ jargon as I know some other religious fanatics (nutheads) have done. I simply wish to express my own personal observations of this current‘bribe-saga’ in the hope that it may also help clarify a couple of things.
I agree 100% that journalism in Nigeria is darkened by a cloud of corruption where truth is doctored to suit the political will of the paymasters with ‘brown envelopes’ running the show behind the scenes. This deserves denunciation and renunciation at every available opportunity by all who believe ‘the pen is mightier than the sword".

I would sincerely, however, paint a different picture in the case of T.B. Joshua – based on my own personal experiences and the principles Joshua has espoused and stood for over the years.
I am not sure how well you know TBJ or SCOAN but I would say first of all that it would be impromptu to use this particular tragic incident and the church’s rather unusual reaction to it as a yardstick to determine his integrity.

I have watched Emmanuel TV for nearly five years and visited The SCOAN several times during this period. I was initially very skeptical but what caught my attention was the sheer simplicity of Joshua’s message and lifestyle. He is a fresh exception to the ‘money-mongering’ ‘private-jet-boasting’ lifestyles of most Naija men of God today. Joshua lives simply, drives simply, dresses simply, talks simply… he is hands-down the most humble, generous and unusual man I’ve met.

The first time I met T.B. Joshua (without him knowing I was into a journalism and without my asking), he gave me N10,000 for ‘transport’. Where I lived only needed about N500 to get there! There was no condition attached or surreptitious motive at play. That’s just the type of man T.B. Joshua is – a good giver. Ask anyone who knows about SCOAN and they will tell you the same. That’s why I termed him unusual. Such attitude is so rare to find in Nigeria that the insinuations and connotations you arrived at in the light of what he offered you last Sunday are completely understandable.

Don’t think I am naïve! Of course, the money offered by Joshua to you and other journalists last week was certainly influenced by the situation on ground. However, it does not change the truth that this has been Joshua’s habitual practice – not only to journalists but to anyone he meets. Don’t judge by my perception alone – ask anyone who has met him and has not left with some form of blessing.
Besides, what facts are really there to be ‘covered up’ by this‘bribe’ in an international incident of this magnitude? The money, either received or rejected, didn’t change the facts that the media reported.
I could say a lot more but I’m not here to preach. I am just positing that there is more to T.B. Joshua than could be appreciated on a first encounter in a challenging scenario.
My candid advice is to take some time to watch Emmanuel TV, even if you consider yourself ‘unreligious’. Watch the man, listen to what he has to say over a significant period of time and in the light of such, arrive at your conclusion. After all, for over 360 South Africans to take the long journey to Lagos, ignoring the fears of Ebola and Boko Haram, show he certainly has something worth looking at.
That’s just my two cents. God bless!

  8. God bless you my brother,Nicolas is attention seeker am not TBJ member but can't imagine him giving just 50k for bribe when he has been dashing pple millions of naira. Its a pity that we Christian can behave like this just becos is TBJ that is involved. What bribe in a story that has gone viral the very second it happened. Nicolas pls stop speaking ill of the Anointed man of God. I grew up to hear lot of nonsense abt TBJ yet his church keeps growing from strength to strength this can only be God at work. If u feel this your small story can bring down TBJ then you are a big Joke* even if u plan wit all the demons in d world the Power of God that is with TBJ is stronger than You. I rest my case.

  12. I am against tb joshua only for his negative prophecy and kind of healing where people will be dancing galala in the name of healing.Aside these,he is the best pastor in nigeria in terms of helping the less privileged. pastors are interested in acquiring luxury and be deceiving their members against things of the world.

  13. For all I know and can say of TB, his generosity is second to none, therefore I will not and never judge him based on this particular bribe saga..

  14. Tb Joshua gives you the #10,000 because you are a giornalist and wouldn't want you to nail him. So people stop saying it's tb nature to give brown envelope. Why he is choosing whom he gives the envelope to? Tb is a tick that sucks his hosts so that is why he's soft spoken and appear simple so that you may not suspect him.Do you know many South Africans that he has killed in order to take their money . How he faked them not to take their medicines so that they will die not to tell their stories how they've been duped. We are not for religion here but to be careful for such of this man. I learn't our first lady was his follower before. Thank God he did not succeed to kill our honourable first lady for us , as she went for her right medical attention now instead of giving attention to this evil man.We should listen to the South African giornalist and not people like this hungry fool who is been paid by this evil genius called tb Joshua. Instead of hiding his ugly shameless face, he is still trying to make a noise. Tbj is a virus, it's a bacteria, it's a tick that sucks people's blood(as the South African giornalist described him) Because most of us are not sick, that is why we see him as good simple person. This tb needed to be placed behind bars. He has done enough evil. But our leaders are covering and protecting him. Shame on Nigeria.

  15. I enjoyed what you wrote. Liked it actually, but you needed to play to the gallery, to appeal to some public opinion, to sound cool and acceptable. If you want to defend TBJ, by all means do that. Even the bible says don't be lukewarn, you haven't taking a stand by what you have written, but hey, you are only a freelancer. what you were saying made sense until you wrote ''Don’t think I am naïve! Of course, the money offered by Joshua to you and other journalists last week was certainly influenced by the situation on ground".
If that is the case, they summary of what you have written is ''Joshua gives normally, but he gave you this one for bribe''.
bruh, that one no be defense, na misyarn

  16. Just like Alysyn said, you complicated yourself. For the fact that journalists collects brown envelopes does not make it right.. Let us learn how to call a spade a spade and be free. Based on if TB Joshua is real or not, let God judge that!

  17. Ihechukwu, since you have decided to defend TBJ in the most illogical, lukewarm and insipid way, can you in a more serious and patriotic manner tell us why he raised a 2 storey building to 6? Why he lied with how many people had died? Why he came up with thatstupid plane logic? Sort that out first before you attack the other person
