Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun ?

We were all excited when Genevieve Nnaji was cast in Chimamanda Adiche’s Half of A Yellow Sun yet-to-be-released film directed by Niyi Bandele .But that excitement might be short lived as there are reports that her scenes have been cut off. According to E24-7magazine .....

Genevieve’s scenes weren’t expressly important to the story, a reliable source that has seen the movie told E24-7MAGAZINE. “I figured that because of Ms Nnaji’s way of acting, her character dragged the storyline, so it was cut out during editing. Obviously, if she was good enough like Onyeka Onwenu, she would have been given a major role in the film.

“Her minor role was compensation to Nollywood. So, the film producers might be apologetic for cutting out her parts, as she should not try to go to the cinemas to see the film with her family members, else she will give herself heartache.”

It was a very intense exercise for the post-production team; in fact, they ended up cutting out some characters from the book to beat time in order to stay focus and professional. Test audiences, we gathered did not like those scenes.

According to the source, the director realized some footage may not be needed and unfortunately many of those scenes involved the Tango with Me star actress, such that if she appears on screen at all, it will be in a significantly reduced capacity from what her role was in the script.

Yes, you may get to see her in a party scene. This development, no doubt will be shocking to her fans and observers of the industry because of her status and influence but it is a usual occurrence in other climes to cut actors out of finished films

  1. Its so unfair. I know Adichie will not have much say, but the movie is not Nigerian enof. I don't even like the star actress. She won't be able to fit into the whole Nigerian girl (esp igbo) role. Let's watch and see.
    Though am disappointed

  2. I have to agree with her 'style of acting'. Truth is Nigerian actors are glorified actors in this town. They do not work on themselves or on bettering their acting skills. With all the money Genevieve has made, you would think she would go to acting school to brush up her game. Actresses abroad take their acting careers seriously taking language classes, dancing classes, diction classes, even martial arts classes. I know I sound a bit harsh, but I actually do adore Genevieve.
Truth must however be told. If she wants to achieve her dream of being a part of Hollywood, then she needs to work on herself. Or else, Nollywood will always be where she belongs.

    1. In Hollywood, when you accept a script, you sign a contract with various clauses and conditions attached to it. One of this is that all or some of your scenes may be cut out. This would not affect you getting paid

I don't know the validity of the story above but it is plausible.

  5. This is hard to believe men, even the story has a beef undertone to it. Fifi dear, what have u achieved other than being a commenter on this blog? Who knows u? Genny has done damn well for herself and until u reach her status as at 2004, keep shut!
PS Emeleke; Genny was not a waka pass in the movie, she had an active role, verify this ur gist.

  6. Read my post again Rachel.....I adore Genevieve, ok! She's a great NIGERIAN actress! But she wants to enter Hollywood. Hollywood is not Nigeria. To make it in Hollywood, you have to be extremely good or just damn lucky. I never insulted her.

Problem with Nigerians is we don't appreciate positive criticism, but until we learn to do that, we may never achieve all our dreams. Yes, it's sad that her roles got cut out, but it's not the end of the world. She just needs to try harder.
Like you i'm stating my opinion, ignorance is when you come and rant without a solid grasp of the discussion and rain insults without using your intellect.

Many years ago,a frnd told me Genny was doing a course in UNILAG(it was even diploma sef)buh couldn't finish cos she complained it was stressful.
Having accomplished dat much, she av just studied abroad in a course related to her course even if na 3mnths course. Its called self-development.Likeu said Hollywoodis nt d same as Nollywood.

  7. Nigerians go vex o, they jadore genevieve. I actually buy ur idea Fifi...Gene is ok for Nollywood, but might need to add more to her talent if she wants to step up her game in Hollywood. There's nothing wrong in enhancing talent with some professional touch.

  10. @Anon 17:45 u call me dumb? Then what shall I call u seeing u couldn't even express urself properly, even talking about stuff u know nothing about. FYI, Genny actually graduated 4rm unilag in 2007, so u must have had ur gist 4rm some erroneous quarter. @Fifi, u seem to know all so tell me, how many hollywood cats are educated? How many have degrees? U are just full of jealousy, thriving on envy&willing to draw someone who has obviously done great 4 herself down&dats exactly wat ur comment shows. Fortunately d babe in question doesn't know u exist but u know she does. Like I asked u b4 who knows u&wat have you achieved? Until ur name is heard, 4rm Lagos 2 Ibadan, then u can speak thrash!

  14. Fifi are you Genevieve's PA? How do u knw she hasn't taken acting classes alredy? Som1 who aspires 2 b in hollywood would hav definitely done so. Do u see any actress in Naija lyk her, even 2 d weight, she's serios so I tink I agree wit Rachel, u actually seem envious or mayb u didn't put ur words 2geda properly. I remember wen Agbani was crowned Miss World how pple were saying she didn't deserve it&Funmi Iyanda actually had a morning show on dat topic, it was so disgusting 2 watch. Point is many pple r just haters basically.
