A Nigerian Uk based Gospel singer,and The 2011 Gospel Music Awards Nominee,Oluwamayowa Ajayi, has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years for defrauding four American women(via dating site Match.com) to the tune of £120,000.According to reports, using the fake name “Malo Joe“,he would pose as a grieving widower,pilot,or oil executive.
He also disguised as a captor and sent email threats to these women claiming he had been kidnapped and needed a ransom to be paid or risk losing his life.
He once lied to one of his victims who parted with over $100, 000, that he was a businessman who was short of cash and therefore, needed a loan. The woman used some of the money on her credit card and also borrowed from family members to raise the funds.
He also lied to another woman that he was in the hands of Niger Delta militants and they would kill him within 20 hours if the woman didn’t do anything about the ransom they asked her to pay. She sent $500 through Moneygram to Nigeria,
He is said to have lavished the money by living a luxury lifestyle and taking holidays to countries like South Africa.
