The Senate on Wednesday rejected motion for the payment of N5,000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in the country.
The motion was sponsored by Senator Philip Aduda (PDP FCT) but was greeted with shouts of ‘’no, no’’ when he tried to expatiate on it.
According to PM News, attempts by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to second the motion were disrupted by the rowdiness created by the “no” shouting of some senators opposed to it.
Intervening, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, posed the question but the senators responded along party lines.
While Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members yelled ‘’aye’’ in favour of the motion, All Progressives Congress (APC) senators, who were in majority, rejected it.
However, a motion calling for the probe of the utilisation of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) funds by the immediate past administration was adopted by the senators.
Mover of the motion, Sen. Babajide Omoworare, prayed that every naira spent by the past government on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes should be accounted for.
When the President of the Senate put the question, it was supported with a loud “aye’’ from the APC wing of the chamber, with no dissenting voice from the PDP side.

It's good that they regret it. However it's also likely that most nigerians might not understand why.
ReplyDelete5k is too small naaa. Haba! PDP just want to make APC members look bad.
The now rested sure-p offered more. Why reduce it now.
Yes. APC promised 5k per month but are re addressing the issue. Seriously, what would 5k do?
lets talk about at least 20k and above.
You speak like a fool! Can't you just address an issue in all sincerity than make it be about party n political BS. This is the 5th day of another month and govt staffs have not bn paid, Nawa o GEJ was a far better president and decent human being
DeleteYou're the fool. I am part of the govt. Worker that have not been paid.
DeleteReason being that technology failed. Computers crashed.
One should never jump into conclusions before getting the full picture.
If you are a so called lawyer or leader of any kind you should know that. Stupid.
@ hembafan. You work with the government doesn't mean anything.I do not buy your idea.
DeleteOsbourne's Lawyer is out of line, why do you have to insult to disagree. SMH, coming from a Lawyer for that matter. You are very rude and still didnt make any reasonable argument or contribution.
DeleteYour baseless statement reeks of political bias and honestly Hembafan made more valid points than you did. Yet you had say she speaks like a Fool.
It is rly Sad amd pathetic, you should apologise to her.
See how other people below are disagreeing with no insults whatsoever. Yet the learned one, embarrasses us by insulting someone who doesnt feel the way she does
* reject
ReplyDeleteNo that's wrong to say" what would 5k do". Now APC an PDP brouhaha aside.. The money may be too small as you claim, but the joy there is coz it's free, now see a scenario where an APC person that campaigned for change receives that 5k, It's going to be encompassing and passes a message of hope too.. Now my question is? Why campaign with things you know ain't visible? Funny enough it's the APC senators who rejected it... Well, am not surprised.!
Deleteanoda campaign promise unfulfilled. apc change
ReplyDeleteRight is the face of every Nigerian..and what can the youths do about it ??NOTHING ..enjoy d fake change u guys kept shouting Sai Baba..Sai Buhari ..like they swear for u...today Canada prime minister got sworn in with all his ministers ..yet those here in Nigeria who claim to have a ready made blue print to the problems of Nigeria searched for 6months and still brought us the same old corrupt ministers even accepted he had to compensate those who helped him..all this is NONSENSE
DeleteWhat happened to SURE-P? how did it end? Question to ponder about.
DeleteSomething would definitely be done.
Commeeee onnnn . 5k?
Even if I were unemployed, I would reject it. Begging relations can fetch more.
I belong to a political destiny and understand the intrigues of politics.
This reaction is exactly what PDP wanted.
Let's all be patient and see how all this would unravel. That's all
Nigeria matter sef get as e be! Only God can help us!
ReplyDelete5k to buy remote selfie stick or what? I dnt get this wicked politicians
ReplyDeleteThank you star vizzy. It's even an insult. We are about 150 million nigerian citizens or so they say.
DeleteAll things been equal, nigeria can afford to pay each citizen at least 20k per month. Do the maths.
Then PDP with their wayo would suggest that unemployed youth should be paid a mere 5k. Did the former akwa ibom governor do it in his state prior to him becoming a senator? Akwa ibom had one of the largest allocations in the country.
They just want to stir palaver.
It's sheer mischief and most don't know that.
Plus I am a journalist. Sometimes, we sensitise stories.
Nigrrians should ask questions about this issue to those involved. For instance, the senators representing them for the full picture.
My dear you're just saying all this rubbish because you are not broke or probably have not experienced poverty & hard time in life. You won't know how much 5k can do for you until you are in the shoes of some certain Nigerians. Before you start posting rubbish here again, I just want you to know that millions of Nigerians are on a monthly pay of 5k or even less

DeleteI ve experienced hardship. Even slept on the streets. I know what I am saying.
Delete5k might be okay. However, with a country like Nigeria,we first of all should not let it go the way of SURE-P we should be clamouring for more not 5k which some might say is better than nothing. Don't think of immediate benefits but what would help the unemployed in the long term. Lets think bailout money for businesses, agricultural loans etc.
Is the 5k for transport money to go around to ask for more money?
Always look before you leap.
