Photo:Robbers seal 89-yr-old woman’s mouth with super glue

Two suspects have been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly using super glue to seal the mouth of an 89 year woman, Imasogbonre Enahoro, to prevent her for shouting for help.

The suspects  also allegedly glued the mouth of her daughter, Marylyn Ajibola, and proceeded to steal  valuables and a Toyota Camry car from the victim’s’ residence at Igueben villagen,near Benin.

A third suspect  is said to be on the run.

Dangote is Africa’s richest for 7th year in a row

 Alhaji Aliko Dangote remains Africa’s richest with a net worth of $12.2billion, according to Forbes.

This is an increase of $100 million from his worth last year.Dangote is the continental richest for the seventh year in a row.

Other Nigerians on the African list are Globacom Chairman Mike Adenuga ($5.3 billion) adjudged the fifth richest in Africa and Mrs Folorunsho Alakija ($1.6 billion) rated the 15th richest in Africa.

657,000 PVCs abandoned in Oyo State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State on Thursday said a total of 657, 267 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were yet to be collected by their owners in the state.

The INEC’s state Administrative Secretary, Mr Surajudeen Junaid, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.

'Police finally arrest runaway Kano bride who killed husband

Kano State Police Command yesterday confirmed the arrest of Sadiya Umar, a teenage bride, who allegedly poisoned her husband, Umar Sani to death two weeks after their wedding.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Yakasai in Kano.

The late Umar Sani, who allegedly ate the poisoned meal, died a day later at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).

IGP, Idris apologises to Benue people over comments

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, Wednesday apologized to Benue people over the comment he made wherein he referred to the killings in Benue state as a fallout of a “communal crisis.”

Addressing stakeholders of the state in Makurdi, IGP Idris said his statement was misconceived and regrettable and urged Nigerians to learn to be their brothers keeps.

Libya returnees reject N1,000 transport allowance in Edo

Nigerian migrants recently repatriated from Libya on Wednesday protested against the N1,000 transport fare allegedly given to them by the Edo State Government.

Over 900 returnees have been received by the state government at a temporary shelter in Benin since January 8, 2018.

Prisoner declared dead wakes up before autopsy

Spanish morgue workers were given a major fright when a prisoner who had been declared dead after an apparent suicide attempt woke up just as they prepared to perform an autopsy, authorities said Wednesday.

In jail near Oviedo in northern Spain, the man, whom Spain’s prison authority refused to identify, was found unconscious around 8am (0700 GMT) on Sunday and three doctors “found he presented no signs of life,” a spokeswoman told AFP.

Man dies as bulletproof charm fails

A native medicine seller in Katsina State, Usman Saidu, has been remanded in the prison custody in connection with the death of a 27-year-old man, Aliyu Yahuza.

Yahuza, it was learnt, died after being shot with a dane gun.

The deceased was said to have drunk a ‘bullet-repelling’ concoction prepared by the native doctor, who assured him that he could not die from gunshot.

Bricklayer kills graduate wife over overseas travel plan

The Lagos State Police Command has declared a 34-year-old bricklayer, Akinyemi Edgar, wanted for allegedly killing his wife, Ajoke, in the Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect beat the 28-year-old to death during a disagreement at their home and dragged her corpse on the ground to a place near the community well, where he buried her.


Libya returnees protest non-payment of stipend

The 373 Edo indigenes, who were among the 481 Nigerians returned from Libya on Sunday, are protesting the non-payment of stipend for their transportation back home.

Among them are 73 women, some of who are expectant mothers.They arrived Benin City about 1:30a.m. and were lodged at the Motel Benin Plaza by the Edo State government.

At 7:30a.m., the returnees were seen buying snacks, while those without money begged passersby before the government brought food for them.

INEC gives parties Oct 7 deadline to pick presidential candidates

Yesterday,INEC released the official 2019 elections time table giving political parties an October 7 deadline to produce their presidential candidates for the February 16, 2019 presidential election.

Governorship, National/State Assemblies candidates are also to have been picked on the same date.

Ex-permsec Onubuogo loses N664m to FG

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Clement Onubuogo, to forfeit the sums of N664 million and 137,000 dollars to the Federal Government.

Justice Saliu Seidu granted the order at the resumed hearing of a forfeiture suit against Onubuogo.

Bride poisons husband in Kano


The Police in Kano are on the trail of a runaway bride, who allegedly poisoned her husband, Umar Sani, to death on Thursday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in the state, DSP Magaji Majiya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.

Majiya said the relations of the late husband reported the incident to Kofar Wambai Police station in Kano metropolis on Monday.

Man convicted of vandalizing Colorado mosque kills self

A man convicted of vandalizing a Colorado mosque killed himself in a motel room Friday after he was sentenced.

Authorities found 36-year-old Joseph Giaquinto dead the next day at the Motel 6 in Fort Collins, the Coloradoan reported.

His death came after he was sentenced Thursday to three years of wellness court and work release for vandalizing the Islamic Center of Fort Collins in March.

Wike Releases Names Of Suspected Kidnappers, Cultists, Robbers In Rivers

Army hand over rescued Chibok girl to Borno

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday formally handed over the rescued Chibok school girl, Salomi Pogu, to the Borno Government.

Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, presented two rescued girls, including Pogu, to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Durkwa, in Maiduguri.
