A bomb blast has been reported at a First Bank in Azare, Bauchi State. The bomb went off as people, mainly civil servants, queued at the bank's ATM to withdraw money. Many are feared dead.
At first glance, Nigeria, my country seems to be doing well. It is the most populated country in Africa, and has the largest economy in Africa which is in the top 25 in the world. Being in Western Africa, we were even able to contain the Ebola virus before it got out of control, which says something about the health care system. But then you look at other conditions which set it up for failure. Most notably, we have a corrupt government that lies to its people and extreme Islam in the north of the country, where most states implement some form of Sharia Law. Just like a broken record, Islamic sectarianism is breaking out now too, as the Sunnis are killing the Shiites. Boko Haram, like all the other Islamic extremists groups, is terrorizing the population as well. While extreme Islam is becoming a global problem now, which needs attention on the global stage, the Jonathan, administration, and neighboring governments need to step up efforts to get rid of Boko Haram and bring the north of the country out of the stone age, or the problems Nigeria is facing now will continue to get worse. May the soul öf the departed rest in peace. IT İŞ WELL
