How we were deported from Lagos to Onitsha(Victims tell their touching stories))

If you have been following the story, on Wednesday, July 24,67 people, mostly Igbos were reportedly deported from Lagos and dumped in Onithsa at 3:20 am .They clai they were arrested by KIA(Kick Against Indisipline)and some say they had been in jail with no contact with their families since December

Below are touching stories of two of these deportees as reported by Vanguard
Rosemary Nathaniel, a native of Ubakala in Umuahia, Abia State,
“I was neither a beggar nor a hawker for the past five years I lived in Lagos. I was working at a T-shirt weaving center at Mile 2, Lagos and I lived with my sister but in January, this year, the KAI officials arrested me and my friend while we were standing and discussing”.

On how she was arrested,
Rosemary stated that she was  just standing somewhere discussing  with one of her friends and all of a sudden, the KAI officials, accompanied by some policemen double-crossed and dragged them into their waiting vehicle and then off-loaded them at a prison in Alausa area of Lagos
She noted that it was when they were forced into the vehicle that they saw others who were already inside the vehicle, adding that as they moved about, more persons were arrested and dragged into the vehicle until the vehicle was filled to the brim.
She said that up till now, her sister had never known her whereabout since then because the KAI officials did not even ask them where they lived or where they worked  or who are their relations, adding that if she is able to get a transport fare, she would like to go back to her sister in Lagos.
Another deportee who identified himself as Osondu Mbuto from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State and who claimed to be a petty trader in Lagos, said he was arrested by the same KAI officials who were in the company of some policemen, while going to his shop on December 18, last year.
Mbuto who noted that he was picked up forcefully by government officials with armed policemen while trying to go to his shop one morning. added that he had been in the Ikorodu unofficial detention camp without having contact with his family and friends for over eight months before they were bundled to Onitsha that day.
According to Mbuto,
“I am a Lagos-based petty trader but on that December 18 fateful day, I packed my load somewhere and decided to go and buy something and exercise myself and as I was walking on the road, I saw three persons who came and approached me. Initially, I thought they were all these people who snatch peoples’ bags and I thought I could scare them away by giving them a little change from my pocket.
“All of a sudden, “he continued, “I saw an armed policeman in uniform who pointed his gun at me as he ordered me to follow the KAI officials and out of fear, I joined them as they marched me into a waiting vehicle and drove away.
“My initial suspicion was that they were taking us to Alausa police station, where they used to detain people unlawfully only to release them later with a specific amount of  fee for bail. But this time around, they took me to another place called Ikorodu which is different from Ikeja local government. That place is very close  to Ijebu Ode”.
He said after taking his statement, they put him into their cell, adding that it was two days before their deportation to Onitsha that one of their elders came and asked that those who would want to go home should write down their name, which he did.
He said those of them who wrote their names and indicated their interest to go home were later separated from others and were later pushed into a vehicle down to Onitsha where they were dumped at the Upper Iweka Flyover at about 3.20 a.m.

    2. @Ima, maybe you've been living in an estate where you dont come out sry to say. I have seen cases where police just patrol with their van or buses and pick students going to school for morning lectures even with their book in their hands not because they were cultist, not because they committed any crime but because the policemen needed the bail ransom the family members will come and pay. These things happen in Nigeria.....www.jointarena.com

  7. I just hope the stories are true. I just hope the issue is not being blown out of proportion by Peter Obi the governor of the state in order to make Ngige lose the support of his Igbo kinsmen. The logic is this: Fashola is ACN and he is being portrayed as being so anti-Igbo. Ngige is ACN, a party that "hates the Igbos". In my own opinion they are paying politics with this issue. But I plead that the people should be rehabilitated so as to make them continue positively with their lives.

  11. its a shame to lagos state and all the states practicing this inhuman act...how can one be deported in his own country? it has never been heard of...if you find something strange with these people why not take them to rehab and even discuss with them why you think they should go back to their home state if they are not from Lagos. Booooooooooo to Fashiola......Boooooooo to anyone supporting this.....www.jointarena.com

    1. You are so damn right. Since when was poverty/destitution a crime? After all, its govt that has the responsibilty of creating a better life for its citizenry. To bundle ibos or even osun folks out of lagos is sad. Only in naija!! It reeks of cluelessness in tackling what ails the nigerian society. Nigerians are poor only because they have bad leadership. This action of fashola can only add petrol to the already burning tribal fires of nigeria. Lagos has always been this beautiful cooking pot with all sorts of lovely ingredients. To me it doest matter if we inter change the lagos cook periodically. All i want is a good lagos meal. Thats all. Lets not spoil the lagos dish fashola. Lagos must be multi tribal.
British govt says to illegal nigerian immigrants leave britain or we deport you. But here in nigeria, fellow nigerians are throw out of lagos all because they are poor and are not from lagos. Nigeria and her trillion problems * sign * I join femi kuti in wondering for nigeria, wondering for fashola.

  13. Ibo is the most discriminatory tribe in Nigeria followed by Hausa(though based on Religion)They should expect the same from other tribes. I packed my car in iboland, the area people discriminated against me and removed my tyres,on discussing the issue with their authorities, they ask me to go back to my land. I love the deportation of a thing and let us see who will loose. And even Ibos afterall even hated one-another,so that is why they seek refuge from other organised tribes than theirs. Nothing special about the Ibos than they been mere pests cockroaches and rats that needed to be cleans from all the other tribes as Hausa did them sometime ago. To their shameless way of life, they still return to the North, despite all the killings that do happen every three years. Infack i studied their case i see they are highly ungodly and wayward kind of a race. They cannot develop their place, they can't show love to one-another but they like receiving love from other tribes while they are wicked. If their governor is having any programme for those deported let him help them after-all they are from his state, but i tell u, he has no programme for them and before 2 weeks these rats are back in Lagos as they are allways back in the North after disgracefull deportation. This is not to insult the ibos, but it is time they live up to their expectation and develop their moral values.Develop your land if you know how to.Don't help yoruba develop her land..ufeumanu people.
