Saraki bycotts primaries as APC picks Lawan as sole candidate for Senate Presidency

After rigorous lobbying by senators, the All Progressives Congress on Saturday announced Senator Ahmed Lawan and Senator George Akume as sole candidates for the position of President and Deputy Senate President of the 8th Senate respectively.

This decision was arrived at after a primary election conducted by the National Working Committee of the APC at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The returning officer Mala Buni who is also the National Secretary of the Party, announced that out of the 33 Senators accredited to vote,Lawan got 32 votes with one vote was declared invalid..”
Akume got 32 out of the 33 votes.

Senator Bukola Saraki who many believed was up for the position of senate president, bycotted the elections alongside other senators..
Lawan in his acceptance speech thanked those who voted but said, he was saddened that his colleagues “in the other camp” did not participate in the process ..

  3. If 32 out of 33 of the accredited voters voted for a person, then it is not an election as you guys claim.
    It is a selection!
If you said some people in the other camp did not participate, then, yet again it is not an election. It is imposition.
