A Christian nurse who was sacked after offering to pray for her patients has claimed she was unfairly dismissed.
Sarah Kuteh,a nursing sister with 15 years of experience, was dismissed last August for gross misconduct after people she had treated complained about her religious “fervour”.
She appealed but the panel agreed that the decision to dismiss Mrs Kuteh was "entirely appropriate".
Giving evidence at the tribunal, Mrs Kuteh denied forcing her religion on patients.
She said:
NHS worker Sarah Collins, who chaired Mrs Kuteh’s first disciplinary hearing at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent, disagreed. In a statement she said:
One patient claimed she spent more time talking about religion than completing a pre-operative questionnaire.
Tribunal chair Martin Kurrein reserved his judgment to a later date.

She said:
“I’m serious about my religion but I don’t think I imposed my religion on patients.
“I love nursing, I love what I do and I love talking to patients.
“What I wanted the trust to have done was to give me the opportunity to show a change.”
NHS worker Sarah Collins, who chaired Mrs Kuteh’s first disciplinary hearing at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, Kent, disagreed. In a statement she said:
“Despite having been warned against such behaviour on two occasions, she persisted with questioning patients on religious grounds.A total of eight complaints were made by “extremely vulnerable” patients facing surgery.
“Mrs Kuteh’s assertion that she felt compelled to continue to hold religious discussions with patients concerned me.”
One patient claimed she spent more time talking about religion than completing a pre-operative questionnaire.
Tribunal chair Martin Kurrein reserved his judgment to a later date.

ReplyDeleteMathew 5:10-12 "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

DeleteIn as much as we are Christians and we love the lord let's look at this with out being biased. If am going for surgery a Muslim com to preach to me or and Alfa or imam I will react. There is a time for everything a time to preach a time to do your damn job.The western world does not believe in praying bfor surgery they put their trust on their surgeon and care giver simple as that.If U are in their country employed comply with their rules. There is no persecution here.she has been warned,8 times, booked and written up 8 times so wat she sees she takes. Dont use your own religion to disturb another person.Time for surgery is not time for prayers oyibo no send you.You want to minister go on evangelism.
