The Emir of Kano,Sanusi Lamido took to instagram to share his opinion on the Niger Delta struggle and those clamoring for a split. He also revealed Lagos is more useful for Nigeria than the oil rich producing states.
The Lagos story is a story of what Nigeria can do with itself – transparency, consistency, regulations. That’s why today Lagos state is 30% Nigerian non-oil GDP, and Lagos can dowithout oil. This country is better off with Lagos than with the Niger Delta. Let’s not make that mistake. We should be together as a country. Every part of the country is important. But, let us not be so obsessed by a resource, because we have had the commodity driven model, and we are blind to the potentials of an alternative model. Lagos doesn’t need oil. What is oil anyway? It is a raw material. You don’t drink it. You need it to move your vehicles. Now, you have electricity. You need it to fill your generator. Now you have solar power, and biomass. The future of oil is not there. So, those few people who are trying to break up this country over oil, after sometime that oil will be worthless. - Muhammadu Sanusi iI

Hmmmmmm hmm
ReplyDeleteThe Blunt truth! I was born and bred in the Niger Delta region, but I hate that place. The mentality of the people is soooo poor. The mentality of "give me fish but don't teach me how to fish". They keep blaming the wrong people while our so called leaders enrich their pockets with the wealth of the region. All they need do, is just share a portion of the fish to the hungry youths who have access to them and they would chant their praises. U won't see industries, no good roads or infrastructure. The firms that try to settle there are not given a peaceful environment to stay. No single development. Lagos is the way it is because the people of the West have allowed it to be so. Soon the glory of oil would be history, and the Niger Delta lands would be left naked while their leaders invest in other lands. The youth restiveness is not worth it. It does more harm to the immediate communities and people of the Niger Delta, than Nigeria as a whole. If other states would learn from Lagos, Nigeria would be a better place and we won't have to be migrating to seek greener pastures and overcrowding other people's lands.
