I can not promise we'll rescue the Chibok girls-Buhari

President-elect,Buhari has marked the one year anniversary of the abducted Chibok girls, saying though he would do everything to defeat Boko Haram,  he is not promising they would be rescued .A statement to that effect reads
“Today we remember the kidnapping of 276 girls from a school in Chibok one year ago. This crime has rightly caused outrage both in Nigeria and across the world.
“Today is a time to reflect on the pain and suffering of the victims, their friends and families. Our thoughts and prayers, and that of the whole Nigerian Nation, are with you today.
“I want to assure all of them, and particularly the parents, that when my new Administration takes office at the end of May, we will do everything we can to defeat Boko Haram. We will act differently from the Government we replace: we hear the anguish of our citizens and intend to respond accordingly.
“This new approach must also begin with honesty. We do not know if the Chibok girls can be rescued. Their whereabouts remain unknown. As much as I wish to, I cannot promise that we can find them.

But I say to every parent, family member and friend of the children that my Government will do everything in its power to bring them home.
“What I can pledge, with absolute certainty, is that starting on the first day of my Administration Boko Haram will know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas.
“Boko Haram” means “Western Education is Sinful”. When they are defeated militarily, as they will be, we will ensure our citizens in the affected areas have improved educational opportunities as a direct counterbalance to Boko Haram’s twisted ideology. In particular we will educate ever more young girls ensuring they are empowered as citizens of Nigeria.
“Let us use this anniversary to remind each other that the attack on Chibok was an attack on the dreams and aspirations of our young people.
“We stand united in our pledge to resist terror in Nigeria– not just through military means but also through the power of opportunity and the hope of a better future for all”.

  6. Things can not change overnight! The current administration already spoilt so many things and those things will take time before they will be addressed properly. Buhari is not a magician..

  11. Hahahahaha! Ngwanu! Story don "change"! That's absolutely the "change"! This was exactly one of your campaign promises! You plainly said this in Imo State that you'll make sure that the girls return to their parents! Now see what you're saying! Nigerians never see anything! Shey they want "change"! Oya now! When an American think-tank said it that it doesn't see anything viable the "opposition APC will do better than than the ruling party" everybody thought it was a joke! They rightly said that the opposition only have a single manifesto and that is just to wrest power! And that's exactly what it looks like now! This brain dead president-elect used his mouth to say that he will make sure that the girls return to their parents once he takes over power! And here he's back-tracking! Ok nah! Am watching you! Remember you said that you're gonna make 1naira to be equal to $1! You said you'll make a barrel of Oil to get back to $110, am waiting on you for that! You said you'll pay all unemployed graduates stipends every month! You said all school children will be entitled to free meal on all school days! Woe betide you if you don't do all this things!

  17. It will do us all a good if we begin to see and accept GMB in good fate as our next president elect rather than see him as our enemy or for the reason why Nigeria is moving backward as a nation....it has been so obvious enough that most people pray and prefer to see his administration be a colossal failure than see it become a successful one that we all hoped for...........no amount or intake of hate and frustration will deliver Nigeria from it present Dilemma and predicament......I only hope and pray for a peaceful Nigeria

  20. @ Desmond. Nobody is very willing to support any body they're not sure of. So do not expect everyone to support GMB when they have not seen any reason for doing so. He should at least maintain his campaign promises and also make good on them. However, if he starts now to deny his initial promises then he can be sure of attracting massive criticisms.
