Ikare Robbery Incident-Death toll rises to 18 as fresh facts emerge

Fresh facts emerged, yesterday, that eight policemen were shot dead by the dare-devil armed robbers, who robbed three banks simultaneously in Ikare area of Ondo State, Tuesday. The affected banks are: First Bank Plc, Ecobank Plc, Wema Bank Plc and Spring Bank.

As at yesterday, reports said that 18 persons were killed by the bullets of the robbers, who carried out the operation commando style.

Fact finding visit to the town by Vanguard, yesterday, indicated that five policemen were shot on their arrival at the two of the banks, while three others were shot at the police station, which was earlier raided by the bandits.

Reports had it that a former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Ezekiel Ile-Ola Gold, was among the casualties. He was said to have been shot on the stomach and died instantly.

This is coming as both commercial and business activities remained completely paralysed in the ancient town. All the banks in the town shut their doors to customers as a result of the robbery incident.

The three banks that were robbed by about 15 armed robbers are located at Jubilee area and a walking distance from each other.

The police station was riddled with bullets, while all the shops located around the three banks had bullet holes on their walls and the iron doors.

Vanguard learned that the robbers came in two golf vehicles and a bus wearing MOPOL uniform. Some of those killed include school children, who were reportedly heading home and were caught in the sporadic shooting of the robbers.
.Eyewitness account said that the robbers operated as if they were in a war front.

According a source, the robbers must have done their home work before the operation as all the major roads were strategically manned by them to wade off any security intervention that will halt their operation.

A source said a school boy and his father who went to pick him from school were both shot dead by the robbers.

Others were shot outside the banks at Idi-mango, Okegbede police station, Ugbe area, Iboropa and Akunu area of the ancient town.

A prophet said to be conducting a spiritual bath for a member of his church were both reportedly shot dead according to an unconfirmed source.

Corpses of the policemen and others according to sources have been deposited at the general hospital in Ikare. At press time, the image-maker of the state police Command Wole Ogodo was still in Ikare on a fact finding tour.

“Worthy Of Him…And Fruitful In Every Good
    Work”

    Pastor Chris Oyakhilome PhD

For this cause we also, since the day we heard
it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire
that ye might be filled with the knowledge of
his will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding; That ye might walk worthy of
the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in
every good work, and increasing in the
    knowledge of God (Colossians 1:9-10).

This is so powerful. The Holy Spirit inspired
the Apostle Paul to pray this prayer for the
Colossian Church. Notice the purpose of this
beautiful, Spirit-inspired prayer: “That ye might
walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing,
being fruitful in every good work, and
    increasing in the knowledge of
    God” (Colossians 1:10).

This is God’s desire: He wants you to walk
worthy of Him, pleasing Him in all things. That
means when people see you, or are listening to
you, they’ll testify of His goodness, because
you’ve become the expression and testimony
of His grace, greatness and love; the
expression of His beauty. The Lord Jesus said
    something that buttresses this in John 15:5;
He said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches….”
We’re His extension, His beauty, and His glory.

The glory of a tree is in its branches. So if
Jesus says He’s the vine and we’re the
branches, He’s therefore saying His glory is
seen in, and borne by, us. So everywhere you
go, you’re showing forth His glory, pleasing
Him in all things, and fruitful in every good
work. It doesn’t matter what’s been assigned
to you to do; you can be productive, effective
and fruitful in that assignment. It’s part of our
heritage in Christ. When we get involved in
anything, it comes outright; growth, increase,
progress and prosperity sets in. If that thing
was a wilderness before we came, it be comes
a “fruitful field,” and the fruitful field becomes
    a “forest.” Halleluiah!

You're not ordinary; when you arrive in a
place, Christ has arrived! That’s the reason
you can be fruitful in every good work. When
you’re given a responsibility, or an official
    assignment, don't say, “I don't understand why
I’m being asked to do this”; no! Don’t think or
talk that way! Rather, see yourself as the right
candidate for the job, and go ahead to make it
    a success.

    Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for I’m your extension,
your beauty and your glory. I will walk worthy
of you always, pleasing you in all things, and
fruitful in every good work, in the Name of the
    Lord Jesus. Amen.

    F U RT H E R S T U D Y:
Isaiah 32:15 Until the spirit be
poured upon us from on high, and the
wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful
    field be counted for a forest. ;

John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it
abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye
abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the
branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without
    me ye can do nothing.
