Boy attacked by dogs got infections at LASUTH –Indian hospital

Available information has shown that four-year-old Abraham Omonigho, who was attacked by two German shepherd dogs in Igando area of Lagos State, in September 2014, was infected while at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

According to Punch, this was said by the medical personnel at the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, an Indian medical facility in Telegana State, where Omonigho was flown to late November, 2014, after his father, Odia, took him out of LASUTH.

After spending about two months at the Apollo Hospitals, Omonigho returned to Nigeria on Thursday. The treatment of the undisclosed infection was said to have lasted over one month.

Omonigho’s scalp had been covered up by the doctors but Odia said his son would return to India in June 2015, for a micro surgery.
Odia told Punch that, the Indian doctors thrashed the medical report LASUTH issued to them, which he said was termed as “mere paper.”
He said, “They said the report did not give them any information and couldn’t have been written by a doctor. They said it was good I quickly brought my son because his head was getting rotten and had been infected while at the hospital. The doctors told me they could not start with the surgery because they had to treat the infections first.
“You remember I cried out that my son’s head smelled, but the LASUTH people said it was granulation. I had always suspected things were wrong because at LASUTH, the nurses would open his head for dressing at 6am and leave it open for the doctors, who would not show up till 12pm. And when they did, they would ask the nurses to close it up. I remembered that no doctor showed up for two weeks during a particular time. That was when I got mad because his condition was becoming critical.
“But in India, they dressed his wound three times a day, and at least five special senior doctors attended to him every day.”
Our correspondent was shown a medical document of the hospital which confirmed that Omonigho’s head was infected.
It read, “At the time of admission, there was: large raw area over scalp with infection; the raw area was extending from frontal scalp, bilateral parietal scalp to occipital region; the raw area was looking pale and slimy; Infection+.
“Dr. Durga Prassad, consultant paediatrician, was consulted for evaluation of medical problems. He (Omonigho) was diagnosed as a case of infected raw area over scalp.”
Odia said the doctors told the family they needed to do skin
grafting to temporarily cover up the wound before the major operation would be done after his return to India in June.

    3. Keisha or whatever you call yourself! How daft can you be! An incident that happened in in a state university hospital is now Jonathan fault right! You guys are so stupid! You're exactly the type that Etcetra talked about in his recent writeup! Every body forgets that allocations are given to state and local government! No body holds state governors or local council chairmen responsible! Everything is Jonathan! He will come and micro manage Fashola's state teaching hospital for him!ode! If you miss your period this month blame it on Jonathan! Or if you have a miscarriage you can rant it on him! Stupid idiots!

    1. Sharap my friend. If you dont have anything reasonable to say, shut it. How can you generalize all doctors like that because of doctors in a state hospital? How much are they paid? They have to find ways to make ends meet. If you want proper care go to a federal teaching hospital and not a general Hospital or better still tell your corrupt leaders to do the needful.

    3. Doctor's in govt hospitals first go to their own private hospitals to attend to their patients before they report to their duty.Even when they resume they behave nonchalant towards patients that needs emergency care.

  7. This little boy has gone through what a 50yrs old adult hasn't gone through in his early days. I know God has special plans for him cos people whose injury were like micro mini to his didn't survive theirs. God be praised. It is well with our health sector, education sector and all other sectors. In short, it is well with Nigeria as a whole.

  8. Truth, nigerian doctors are callous and quack. If a relatives have not been giving bribe to nurses they won't give their patients proper care. The nurses dont know how to dress wounds.I have a relative who had a broken leg in an accident.we took him to a govt hospital. His leg got rotten because they didnt dress it properly. They would remove the old cotton wool and bandage it with new ones. They didnt disinfect it.Before we knew it it got infected with tatanus.

    1. My brother tell them oo! Am not in any way in support of PDP but apc always making the sanctimonious noise of change irks me! This is a state teaching hospital! Funny enough one Kesha under the spell of apc wrote and blamed it on Jonathan! Insisting that they need "change". An error by the state hospital is now Jonathan fault! All faults in Nigeria is presidential! People forget that there are state and local governments that equally should be held accountable! Every error is Jonathan while there state governors and LG chairmen are busy squandering their state and LG allocated fund! They won't hold them accountable but they will call Jonathan! I believe if that Keysha misses her period she is gonna blame it on Jonathan! Or if she's got a miscarriage trust her to call GEJ!
