Mrs Evelyn Oikhena, the mother of the 15-year-old Daniel Oikhena, who emerged from the wheel compartment of an Arik Air flight from Benin Airport to Lagos, last Saturday, said she was shocked that her son could embark on such a life-threatening journey to where he had never been before.

The mother, Evelyn, who confirmed that she was quizzed by the SSS operatives, said her son was a nice boy who never displayed any tendency for such a dangerous venture. An embattled Evelyn said Daniel was a nice boy who did not mingle with bad friends.
She said,

“My son answers Daniel in school and Ricky at home. I went to my elder sister’s place who put to bed and when I got home the next morning (Saturday), I couldn’t find him. My daughter told me that they quarrelled in the night because he woke at midnight to watch movies and she told him to stop watching movie in the night and she said he eventually slept in the parlour while she said she went back to sleep in the room.
“One of his younger brothers said he saw him remove all his school books from his bag; so I asked my neighbours whether any of them saw him and they told me that at around 5 to 6 am, they heard sounds that somebody was opening the gate but never thought it was my son. He doesn’t go out. What I know is that he is always watching films in the house but he doesn’t have friends.
“I went to Oba Market police station, they referred me to Evbuotubu police station, when I got there they said they will declare him missing after 24 hours and that I should come back the next day.”

Speaking on the type of person her son is, Evelyn said,
“He is always at home, I have never seen anybody come to look for him and he doesn’t have friends. I am begging the government to help me, because I have never been to the airport before, I have been to Lagos before so they should help me. I don’t know how he manage to get there but I just thank God that he is alive.

  3. The whole thing sounds weird.
The one very truth is that the boy won't just get up in the morning and make up his mind to leave home.
He has a relative in Germany and he still wants to sneak his way to The US.Give this a shot. Something brought this up. And, I'm certain it's not from the movies.
The mother won't open up the media if she was actually maltreating him.

There's more to it than we see.

  8. I wonder why we cant see the potential in this kid. I see great potential in him. I see in him a very good special forces operative of the nigerian armed forces. I see him as a great motivational speaker. I see opportunity in cameo appearances in musical videos. I see reality tv opportunities. I see in him a very good acting career. Be it nollywood or hollywood. I see in him the opportunity to make make from all of these by appearing on local and international talk shows. Of course this will all depend on how his parents/guardians handle the situation. They need to be very good managers or if they cant handle the situation they need to get good managers to handle the boy. This opportunity for fame and fortune must not be bungled.

  12. I love this boy.
Not that i support his actions but the fact that he has done it and succeeded he deserves a look into his case.
This boy has something that many of us dont have (courage)which can be used positively or negatively depending on the available avenue.I want to call on Arik air management and Edo state government to pls offer this boy scholarship towards a qualitative education so that his brains can be trainned positively and for all you care this boy can become a pilot to fly one of arik planes someday.
