Why Stella Damascus shouldn't be taken seriously- SK Johnson

I saw this article  by SK Johnson on YNaija, and had to share it. The writer is of the opinion that all she did was rant without offering any solution. Read and decide if you agree(also waiting for Charles Novia's own Lol)
Article Below...

See that? That face up there? That is the face of fury. At least that’s what Stella Damasus expects us to believe. Two days ago the singer/actress released a video on YouTube, supposedly in response to the #ChildNotBride controversy. I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting; something sincere and insightful, maybe? I can’t say, but what I wasn’t expecting was for it to devolve into an exercise into the kind of pointless histrionics the industry to which she belongs is currently criticised for.

It’s clear from the title “Stella Damasus Spits Fire!” - yes, complete with the exclamation mark – that she intends for us to believe she means business. Erm, okay.

The video goes on for 5 minutes and essentially sees her throwing out fancy insults for the senators (“randy old men,” in her terms) and saying nothing about nothing. Well, apart from herself, of course. She makes sure to let us know how “unafraid” she is – since, you know, making a video about a major Nigerian media phenomenon and uploading it to YouTube, is an act of bravery the kind of which strikes fear into the hearts of men everywhere – how other celebrities don’t have the balls to do what she’s doing, how angry she is, how loud her voice is, how many ways in which she can twist her face to portray “anger”.

Sigh. I don’t know. I just don’t know. It would be admirable for a celebrity to speak up in a sincere manner about an issue as important as this one but in this case, I just can’t take it seriously. This video Stella Damasus has made is a joke because it doesn’t say anything remotely insightful. It’s a perfect representation of the superficial and reactionary posturing that gets us absolutely nowhere.

Consider this; not once during the 5 minute run of this video does Stella Damasus offer any possible solution. Sure, no one expects her to snap her fingers and solve the problems, after all, she’s only one human being (albeit a very angry one) but what would be the point if we all went around screaming bloody murder instead of making an attempt to be constructive? It could be as simple as her saying “go sign the petition” – but no. She does an awful lot of castigation, though. She calls out Patience Jonathan, Senator Yerima, and other celebrities. Hey, that’s all well and good, but, again, what’s the point? If this video is addressed to the public, what are we supposed to do with it? Appreciate Stella Damasus’s anger? And then what? The only logical explanation would be that it was meant for the Senators themselves, which, paradoxically would be even more illogical. Let’s face it, are senators supposed to cower in fear at Stella Damasus? Are they even going to care at all what she says? I mean, will “shameless old men” who , as Ms. Damasus put it, are trying to “impose their evil desires on an entire nation,” give the slightest bit of a damn what an actress has to say? Will they even sit down to watch it?

I think otherwise.

If you didn't watch the video or need to watch again.. here it is

  7. At least she made an effort at something she believes in. If other people come out and pass the message across anyway they can, I'm certain our Senators won't have a choice but to listen. I actually think she made a lot of sense in that video.

  14. You must be very stupid, ignorant and full of shit to judge a lady that even had the nerve to say something. Since when did stella now make laws or bring solutions to problems happening in this country. Is she a politician or Law maker? SK Johnson or whatever your name is,your just a dog running with your tail in between your legs. at least she did something what effort have you made. As far as i know your the pig that sits down while a woman does the job for you. Dont you use your brain to Think fool. if we had 10 prominent people like stella speak up like she did,Imagine what change it would make.Your the one ranting not her. SK Johnson your just a jobless man. look for something better to write about. And leave someone brave enough to speak her mind. Rubbish.

For those saying she is a husband snatcher I have news for you, person no fit snatch another person unless e gree eh lol. Plus they are two consenting adults. It does not justify it but at least they are two adults making decisions for themselves unlike all these rapists and child molesters that are trying to legalize what they do to little children that cannot consent.

  16. Shutup fool anon 19:01 she is ranting like a mad Dog in heat. Insulting patience and others. Apart from talk what has she done. Why didn't she fly from America to the Senate house and shout there. U hide for America come use cheap camera record rubbish

  17. and who the fuck is she to tell us why we shouldn't belive stella???

Even if she's acting, as long as we get the message she's trying to pass accross, that's all that matters.

  18. i found out my eyebrows were rising and falling in sync with stella's. I also found myself frowning and making faces as i watched and listened. now, i need to iron out my face!
Stella is just ranting, i said same as ppl forwarded d bullshit messages on BB. Why is she addressing Patience and not Jonathan? Is Patience the president? When Patience speaks now, y'all will say she is meddlesome. is patience a law maker? can she tell the senate what to do or to retract this foolish law?
I'm against child labor, marriage and slavery, but like the Johnson said, what is the solution? Making videos like this is only to draw attention to one's self. I do not see it solving any issue. Maybe these actors should team up and go meet the law makers. Maybe the president. Not the average Youtube users. We r not gonna do anything, we just watch and comment. You r the celebrity, use those powers, gather your colleagues, and us, then let's march to that House!

  19. I see nothing absolutely wrong in stella voicing her Opinion, @ least she spoke out that she aint in support of the actions of the lawmakers. How many other people have the boldness to do so. She has started the pace, how many others are following. This is why 9jerians would find it difficult to move forward cos rada than join her, all we do is To catisgate and hurl insults on her. She mentioned patience cos, as the No1 woman of the country, she should be able to speak up and defend the laws, not from the perspective of her being a law maker or not, but from the point of her being a woman as well as a woman in power. As for the writer S.K johnson, I feel he has a personal beef with stella that they are yet to settle cos , all he did was expantiate her facial expression, make plenty noise about she not preferring a solution and @ the end of d day he did not also profer any solution rather than write Rubbish to gain cheap publicity.

  20. Dear SK & fellow readers/listeners,
Let us take d message and ignore d personality of d messenger.
Stella did proffer solutions by asking us 2 use our computers and social media judiciously. She truly deserves a pat on d back 4 dis bold step. If only u & I can also play or "act" our part I bet u d senators will not achieve their aim.
