Must Read-"All in the name of NYSC?"An angry letter from a concerned Nigerian

Hi, I'm an angry citizen who  is scared for the youth of our country. This pic I sent u happened in Nasarawa state NYSC camp today Tuesday. They were punished for coming late. "Frog jump with your box on your head???"
What rubbish.!! Frog jump alone makes one dizzy, think about it with a heavy box on one's head after a long trek  from the gate to the camp ground where this punishment took place.
Some of them  must have traveled far to Nasarrawa under the scorching northern sun. This is just wrong and inhuman.

That soldier will not do that to his kids. I served with the last batch and I saw all manner of rubbish soldiers do to people cos they are soldiers  Who gives a fuck if u ran up a hill and starved for 1 week.  You choose to do it. Don't carry your frustration on peoples kids and because  of this little power act like fools. We insult the  people in power, let's start from d people in lower categories.
This is extremely wrong all in d name of NYSC. After one year of serving, you still go and look for a job. What is d freaking purpose of NYSC wen you're just gonna teach? How will Nigeria grow like this???

Signed..Angry citizen

Hmmn like seriously frog jump ? Please have any of you experienced something like this in camp ?If this is true, its so wrong....

  1. This is so wrong, NYSC camp is not a Military Training or recruitment camp, please let's do things right...Nigerians are fond of mis using power....

  4. Quite funny...but really they have no right. When I went into camp I was told to carry my box on my head n run abi jog, but I told the soldier there n then: 'sir I can't do that sorry'. I know some ppl insulted me for that but really wats the worse that can happen??? Besides, I didn't insult or offend him.

  10. Reminds me a line in d youth anthem:..under the sun or in d rain. Well, I think the youth service is meant to toughen the corp members, dat must b d reason for bringing in military men.
During our own orientation, I saw this fine babe kneeling down in the hot sun, with her two arms raised above her head. I really pitied her that day. She was there for almost an hour.
But all the same, I enjoyed d military drills, I became friends with the military men..camp was fun.

  14. I guess its if you choose to! I spent 6yrs to study a professional course,I ll be damned if a soldier tells me to do frog jump! I can't recall going for parades or anything cos frankly I didn't feel like and used the camp clinic as an excuse not to go
Bottom line is,its totally wrong sha,but I guess some soldiers do it for fun.
My first 2days in camp were the worst in my life but those soldiers responsible for it became my very good friends b4 I left camp

  15. This post made me laugh and all the replies that came after. You think this is hell? Go ask the millions of Nigerians suffering worse fates as part of their every day life. And because of 3 weeks orientation drills you guys wanna squal? I went to camp at nasarawa nov of 2011, I am a foreign student who hadn't lived in Nigeria for years, after my degree I came home to serve. I got posted to Nasarawa State didn't think of redeploying. Everyone said I wouldn't last in camp, I not only survived camp but the village I was posted to. My point is "suffering is a state of mind". In hindsight I cherish every aspect of my camp and NYSC experience. I'll admit some days were were less than desireable but the entire NYSC experience has taught me a lot about myself and taught me dilligence, patience and tolerance amongest other things. I'd go back to Nasarawa camp again in a heartbeat!

    1. I love your comment @Bambino ....once in a life time, just experience something....you mustn't tag everything as suffering or being unfair....everyday can't be a bed of roses.

  19. We all did that even worse during our time so its not a big deal anymore, as a lady I just made my hair the day I went to camp and they made me carry my heavy box on my head and we sat on the floor with our white under the raincountless times and we also stood sometimes, everyone in abuja camp except the sick ones, you need to see the way ambulance picks people up everyday, sometimes the clinic will be so full. So no be today this on start for naija

  20. I think dis Ȋ̝̊̅§ unfair considering dat many of them had to travel very long distances to get to d camp. If they were already settled in camp and had to be drilled as part of d orientation exercise, no big deal. But having to do dis after so many hours on d road, NO!
